Moving traction batteries for side loaders for refuse and recycling collection vehicles

In close cooperation with the truck manufacturer, ESTEPE has moved the high voltage battery packs on the side of the chassis to a position behind the cabin for a series of vehicles.

The customer requested a vehicle with the left side of the chassis “free of components”, for the construction of a side loader.

Together with the manufacturer, an innovative solution was devised for the conversion of these electric trucks. This new technique also shows that ESTEPE continues to adapt itself to be able to continue to carry out truck modifications, also for electric trucks. Our production halls have been suitable for adapting and converting electric vehicles for several years. In addition, some of our employees are NEN-9140 certified so that they can work safely on electric vehicles. Securing and putting the vehicles back into operation is something that ESTEPE can do itself.

In this modification, a frame was mounted behind the cabin in which the batteries of the left side were placed. In addition, various components were moved to contribute to a “component free” chassis on the left side. The e-PTO was moved and a new cooling circuit, including pipes and hoses, according to ESTEPE design was mounted. In this modification, it was also necessary to make some changes to the wiring harness. In short, a large part of our capabilities and competences came together in modifying these E-trucks.

We have our own charging station so that electric vehicles can be charged at ESTEPE before we start the modification. In this way we ensure that the vehicle’s batteries always remain sufficiently charged during the time the vehicle is at ESTEPE. This charging service is part of the wide range of ESTEPE.
